Kent’s Royal Rumble: The Thrilling Return of Tres Kings
Some bands fade away. Others go quiet, sharpen their knives, and return with a vengeance. For Kentish trio Tres Kings, 2025 has been less a reunion and more of a strategic detonation, a high-energy relaunch that confirms their status as a vital voice in the British indie scene. Centred on the compelling vocals and songwriting of frontman Wez King, this is a band reborn with a renewed sense of purpose and a professional machine to back it up.
The Tres Kings identity is forged in raw energy and infectious riffs, a sound that feels both classic and dangerously contemporary. The power trio is completed by the familial engine room of brothers Lachlan Fuller on bass and Ruaidhri ‘Rhu’ Fuller on drums. While Lachlan lays down funky bass licks, Rhu’s frenzied drumming delivers an unrelenting and ferocious heartbeat.
Their story began with a flash of early success in 2018, marked by a British television debut and a feature in a Walkers Crisps advert. They quickly established their credentials, winning the Battle of the Bands at Margate’s iconic Dreamland stadium and, crucially, becoming the first-ever band to record at The Albion Rooms, the highly-regarded studio established by The Libertines. This early association placed them directly within a revered lineage of British indie rock.
Following this initial surge, the band entered a strategic hiatus. This was no disappearing act, but a period of crucial development, particularly for Wez King. He embarked on a prolific solo career, honing his craft and earning significant critical acclaim for singles like Mona Lisa (2023) and Officer (2024). His work, compared by reviewers to the likes of the Arctic Monkeys and Liam Gallagher at his most vulnerable, secured vital support from tastemakers like John Kennedy on Radio X and was featured in the documentary Kick Out The Jams – The Story of XFM. Throughout this time, King maintained his creative base at The Albion Rooms with producer Jason Stafford, ensuring the band’s technical and creative core remained intact.
This groundwork led to a management deal with The Songbird Artist Management and their return was heralded by a pair of formidable singles.
Scuba Diver: A foot stomping, indie rock debut single, its release was accompanied by a live session video filmed at The Albion Rooms, a clear statement of their performance-first ethos.
Antenna: Immediately hailed as an anthem for the masses, this track features Wez King’s vocals acting as a call to arms over a storm of thrashing drums.
The critical reception has been immense, with powerful backing from Radio X in the UK and from legendary US DJ Rodney Bingenheimer on Sirius XM. This transatlantic praise confirms the band’s sound has an appeal that stretches far beyond the Kent coast.
Much of the band’s momentum is anchored in the burgeoning creative scene of Margate. The Albion Rooms serves as their consistent creative hub, its high-specification setup allowing them to capture their raw energy with studio precision. Their long-standing collaboration with producer Jason Stafford, who has worked with The Libertines and Jamie-T, is pivotal. King notes that Stafford “knows me very well and knows what I want out of it,” a relationship that has been instrumental in shaping their sound.
This localised support structure has provided a launchpad for a national assault. Their 2025 live schedule has been a masterclass in strategic booking, from playing to a packed out tent at the Isle of Wight Festival to securing high-profile support slots with Britpop giants Sleeper and, symbolically, returning to Dreamland as a main support act. Looking ahead to early 2026, sold-out London gigs supporting peer act Trampolene signal their firm integration into the national touring circuit.
With their next single, My Favourite Letter is K, scheduled for release on 5 November 2025, Tres Kings are maintaining a relentless professional pace. This is a focused, energised, and powerful unit, leveraging an authentic local identity to make a significant national impact. The hiatus is over. The reign has just begun.
